The Role of Orphan Care Programs in Empowering Orphans to Improve Their Quality of Life (A Study Applied in Dhofar Governorate)

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of Orphan Care Programs (OCPs) in Dhofar Governorate in empowering orphans economically, socially and personally. The study also aims to identify the obstacles that may limit the effectiveness of OCPs in empowering orphans, and to propose some recommendations.
This is a descriptive study that utilizes the social survey method, employing a comprehensive survey of all OCPs workers in Dhofar Governorate, totaling 41 individuals.
The study comes up with the following Results:
● The level of economic empowerment and quality of life indicators was high, with an arithmetic mean of 2.34 and a standard deviation of 0.70.
● The level of social empowerment and quality of life indicators was moderate, with an arithmetic mean of 2.26 and a standard deviation of 0.76.
● The level of personal empowerment and quality of life indicators was moderate, with an arithmetic mean of 2.22 and a standard deviation of 0.81.
● The level of obstacles was moderate, with an arithmetic mean of 2.23 and a standard deviation of 0.58.
● There were no statistically significant differences related to the variables of gender, age, educational level, or years of experience.
The study comes up with some recommendations which can enhance the role of OCPs in effectively empowering orphans, including proper planning, intensifying training courses for workers, involving orphans in identifying their own needs, and increasing financial support provided for OCPs.
