The effectiveness of dialectical behavioral therapy in social casework and reducing the symptoms of alexithymia among a sample of women with burns in Assiut Governorate

Abstract

The current study aimed to test the effectiveness of dialectical behavioral therapy in social casework and reducing the symptoms of alexithymia among a sample of women with burns in Assiut Governorate. This study belongs to quasi-experimental studies and used the quasi-experimental approach on a sample of (20) women with burns divided into (10) experimental cases and (10) control cases in the burn unit at the University Trauma Hospital, Using professional interviews, telephone communications, and the alexithymia scale, the study found that there was a high level of alexithymia among women with burns, and after applying a professional intervention program using behavioral dialectical therapy at the social casework, the study concluded that there were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the members of the experimental and control groups in the pre-application of the alexithymia scale, There are statistically significant differences between the average scores of the experimental and control groups in the post-application of the alexithymia scale among women with burns in Assiut Governorate, as well as the presence of differences between the average scores of the pre- and post-measurement of the experimental group of the alexithymia scale among women with burns in Assiut Governorate, With these results, this study demonstrated the effectiveness of the professional intervention program of behavioral dialectical therapy in social casework in reducing the symptoms of alexithymia among a sample of women with burns participating in the research.
