Abstract

The study aimed to determine the causes that lead to environmental pollution and the most important environmental problem in rural areas, as well as to identify the most important reasons that lead to the lack of awareness of residents of rural areas about environmental problems.
The study concluded that the most important reasons that to environmental pollution in rural areas are the lack of fresh water, the increasing rate of illiteracy, the low standard of living and the lack of environmental awareness of the dangers of environmental problems. It also concluded that the most important environmental problems in rural areas were sewage in canals and drains, littering in streets and public squares drainage of agricultural waste excessive use of agricultural and chemical pesticides and the collection of livestock manure in streets and public places. The most important reasons for the lack of awareness of rural residents of environmental problems were also represented in the weakness of communication channels between members of society in rural areas, the lack of any sense of responsibility by members of society in protecting the environment form pollution, low standard of living and ingnorance, and the lack of belief of rural residents in the importance of the role of official institutions in helping them overcome environmental problems.
