Obstacles facing social worker as a general practitioner when dealing with students with Irlen Syndrome

Abstract

The field of teaching reading is one of the most important fields of education, and the success of students in other academic subjects depends mainly on their proficiency and learning of the skill of reading. In fact, difficulty in reading is one of the basic axes of academic learning difficulties, as research results have confirmed that difficulties in learning to read represent the most common types of academic learning difficulties. About 80% of students suffer from learning difficulties in reading, and some reading difficulties may be due to major problems in visual perception of written text, which is called (photosensitivity), which was known as "Irlen Syndrome" after its discoverer, "Helen Irlen". The concept of Irlen Syndrome was given to the problems associated with the way the brain interprets visual information, which is related to the visual perception of written text, and this problem is not related to vision or the safety of vision. "Irlen" was used In treating this problem, colored transparencies, filters, and glasses designed specifically for this purpose and in different colors in order to improve the brain’s ability to process visual information. Learning difficulties involve multiple societal and individual problems, as they represent (43%). Of the number of students who receive special education services, the tasks of the social worker within schools have become required to move from traditional reliance and confronting the traditional problems of learners to moving towards using modern methods to confront contemporary problems and contribute to the development and modernization of contemporary society
