Awareness of University Students About the phenomenon of Electronic Blackmail and Ways to Face It from The Perspective of Social Group Work

Abstract

The current study aims to determine the level of awareness among university students regarding the phenomenon of electronic Blackmail by identifying their knowledge level of such phenomenon, assessing their attitudes towards the phenomenon of electronic Blackmail, and identifying their actual practices in dealing with these phenomena. Additionally, the study attempts to propose Ways, From the Perspective of Social Group Work, to confront the phenomenon of electronic Blackmail among university students. The study adopted a random representative sample of the study population, which included 60 male and female students who are members of the Social Work Group at the Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Applied Sciences, Dhofar University in the Sultanate of Oman, in the academic year 2023/2024. The study has concluded several proposed approaches, including forming a team of volunteer student groups interested in raising awareness about the phenomenon of cyberbullying, intensive training of team members to organize awareness campaigns within the university using various means, organizing awareness campaigns on social media platforms for students and the university community about cyberbullying and how to prevent it
