An effective program of professional intervention in the working method with planning for its development for social group work for the elderly

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the importance of the professional program in the method of working with groups to develop the social competence of the elderly. The study was applied to one of the groups of elderly people inside Al Mona Nursing Home. They numbered (32 elderly people) and were divided into two groups, one experimental and the other a control group. Each group consisted of (16) elderly people. This study is considered as one of professional intervention studies in the method of working with groups. And it relied on the experimental approach, and by using an experimental design, the professional intervention program for the method of working with groups to develop the social competence of the elderly was applied to the experimental group. Pre and post measurement was done on the two groups and then the results were compared before the program and after it to identify the impact of the program in developing the social competence of the elderly. The used tool is a measure for developing the social competence of the elderly, prepared by the researcher, an observation guide. The study results concluded that there is a relationship between practicing the professional intervention program and increasing the social competence of the elderly. It also concluded that the activities and programs led to an increase in social relationships and using techniques such as group discussion, role playing, and various group activities for the elderly, such as parties, seminars and lectures. ‏
