Reality of practicing community organization strategies in developing medical social work departments and sections

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the level of practicing community organization strategies in developing medical social work departments, and the obstacles facing practicing community organization strategies in developing medical social work departments and making recommendations to enhance the process of practicing community organization strategies in developing medical social work departments. It is considered one of the descriptive studies that relied on the comprehensive social survey approach for directors of social work departments in health directorates, and heads of social work departments in health departments in various governorates of Egypt, (N= 54) officials. The study used a questionnaire to determine the strategies of community organization in developing medical social work departments. The results of the study included a high level of practice of normative and cooperative strategies of community organization method in development of social work departments. The utilitarian strategies of community organization method got a medium level. It also became clear that the obstacles facing the practice of these strategies included: the lack of equipped halls for the establishment of training courses in the departments and sections of the medical social work, the lack of incentives provided to workers and social workers with knowledge and experience, the lack of appropriate means of communication within the departments and sections of the medical social work, the difficulty of obtaining sufficient funding to develop the work of the departments and sections of the medical social work, the lack of electronic devices used in the activities of the medical social work departments and sections.
