Abstract

The study aimed to identify the impact of correctional programs on improving the social and psychological functioning of juvenile delinquents. The sample of the study consisted of 11 juveniles who were placed in Dar al-Islah in Samael governorate, whose duration of stay ranged from eight days to 8 months. They were divided into three groups according to the duration of their stay at the house from the date of the pronouncement of the verdict. The quantitative descriptive approach was used by building a questionnaire to measure the social and psychological performance of juveniles deposited in Dar al-Islah. The most important results came in that the social performance axis obtained the highest arithmetic average equal to 68.92 for the members of the three samples as a whole, due to the continuous availability of sports and social programs in the house, which raised the level of their self-esteem and created direct relationships with their peers and employees of the house. In contrast, As a result of the suspension of joint programs with other ministries during the COVID-19 pandemic, the results indicated the presence of mental disorders in juvenile delinquents. The study recommends the need to intensify social and psychological programs and open the participation of government and private entities in the preparation and implementation of programs to achieve social and psychological adaptation of the event to better exit the community.
