Patterns of family communication and its relationship to social self-efficacy among university students

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the patterns of family communication among university students, their level of social self-efficacy, the relationship between family communication patterns and social self-efficacy, the relationship between family communication patterns and the demographic characteristics of the study sample, and to identify the significance of differences in social self-efficacy according to demographic characteristics. On the descriptive approach, using a snowball sample, and it consisted of (303) students, and the researcher used the scale of family communication patterns prepared by Fitzpatrick & Ritchie Arabization (Al-Osaimi, 2017), and the social self-efficacy scale prepared by (Dradakah, 2019), and the results indicated family communication patterns. It is the consensual pattern, followed by the protective, then the Pluralistic, and finally the laissez faire families, as indicated by the high level of social self-efficacy, It concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between the consensual communication pattern and social self-efficacy, as well as the protective pattern, while the positive relationship was weak and insignificant between the pluralistic pattern and social self-efficacy, and inverse and insignificant between the laissez faire families pattern and social self-efficacy, and the study indicated that there is a positive weak significant relationship Between family communication patterns and gender in favor of males, while the positive relationship was weak and insignificant between family communication patterns and age groups, the study indicated that there are significant differences between males and females in social self-efficacy in favor of males, while there are no significant differences between age groups in social self-efficacy.
